IBL Program Outcomes

The following learning outcomes are expected upon successful completion of the IBL program:

General

Degree recipients will:

1. Develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills and an understanding of ethics and aesthetics through the building blocks of a strong liberal arts and humanities curriculum

Metrics:
  • 50% of credits earned will be in liberal arts and humanities
  • Exit survey of all graduating seniors will indicate that those graduating with an overall GPA of 3.0 or more will show moderate to high level of proficiency in MMA's institutional objectives

Department-specific

Degree recipients will:

2. Build a strong foundation in core business functional areas such as accounting, marketing, finance, human resource management, operations management, legal knowledge, technology and information systems, and organizational behavior

Metrics:
  • Exit survey of all graduating seniors will indicate that those graduating with a program GPA of 3.0 or more will have moderate to high level of proficiency in functional areas of business

3. Gather complex information and synthesize into coherent written and oral presentations

Metrics:
  • Satisfactory completion of course-embedded projects in relevant courses

4. Demonstrate understanding of the financial position of organizations through examination of balance sheets, cash-flow statements, budgets, and key financial ratios

Metrics:
  • Satisfactory completion of course-embedded projects in relevant courses

5. Value diversity in the workplace and contribute effectively as a productive member of a team

Metrics:
  • Satisfactory completion of course-embedded projects in relevant courses

6. Analyze business ethics and aesthetics that provide a foundation for the development of a value system that can be translated into effective social action in the workplace and the community at large

Metrics:
  • Satisfactory completion of course-embedded projects in relevant courses

7. Demonstrate the ability to integrate technology and information systems in managing their strategic as well as tactical responsibilities at work

Metrics:
  • Satisfactory completion of course-embedded projects in relevant courses

8. Apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the challenges of doing business internationally

Metrics:
  • All IBL graduates will complete satisfactorily the required elements of an international business plan that involves making a foreign direct investment in a country other than Canada

9. Apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the challenges of domestic and global logistics management

Metrics:
  • All IBL graduates will complete satisfactorily an international logistics project that details the planning, preparation and exportation of a U.S. made product to a foreign location

10. Exhibit competence, professionalism, and confidence in the workplace

Metrics:
  • An evaluation of overall on-site performance of IBL co-op students by their employers will indicate a high level of satisfaction with the competence, professionalism, and confidence of the students
  • All IBL co-op students will prepare a high quality co-op report that complies with the department guidelines and exhibits proficiency in formal writing and presentation skills
